Upon your arrival in Port St. Joe, you’re likely to find yourself at the edge of St. Joseph Bay. Stretching nearly 15 miles north to south and 6 miles wide at its broadest point, the bay is home to one of Florida's richest concentrations of marine life.

Along with clear, shallow waters, the plentiful seagrass beds make it a prime snorkeling area. Grab a mask, snorkel, and dip net from one of our local outfitters and get started on your adventure. Looking for a way to get on the water? You can rent your own pontoon boat or hire a private guide who can tailor an eco-tour to your liking, where you might find a seahorse, starfish, or sea urchin.

Whether you're snorkeling in the clear waters of St. Joseph Bay or heading offshore for a diving adventure, Gulf County offers incredible opportunities to experience Florida's underwater world.

Thanks in part to the Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association (MBARA), more than 200 artificial reef structures have been deployed throughout the area, creating thriving habitat for fish and other marine life while providing exciting destinations for divers. Combined with natural reefs and historic shipwrecks—including the Vamar, designated one of Florida's Underwater Archaeological Preserves—there's always something new to discover beneath the surface.

Don't forget an underwater camera. Our waters are known for their remarkable clarity, making it possible to spot colorful tropical fish, rays, sea turtles, and, if you're lucky, even dolphins during your adventure.
