Start with a Beach Day
September doesn't mean putting away the beach chairs.
Warm days still leave plenty of opportunities to swim, search for shells, walk the shoreline, or settle into your favorite stretch of sand for a few hours. Explore Cape San Blas, St. Joe Beach, Indian Pass, or one of the many public beach accesses throughout Gulf County and let the day unfold from there.
Early mornings and evenings are especially worth making time for. Grab your coffee for a sunrise walk, then come back later to catch one of those sunsets that makes everyone stop what they're doing and look up.

Trade the Beach Chair for an Adventure
September is also a great time to see Gulf County from the water.
Paddle the calm waters of St. Joseph Bay, cast a line, head out for a boat ride, snorkel along the shallows, or explore one of the county's freshwater waterways. St. Joseph Bay's clear, shallow water and grass flats make it especially inviting for kayaking and paddleboarding.
One important update for 2026: recreational bay scallop harvesting in the Gulf County Zone is closed this season due to very low scallop abundance. That doesn't mean the Bay is closed for fun. Fishing, boating, swimming, paddling, and other recreational activities remain open.

See What's Happening This September
If you like a little something happening between beach days, September has that too.
Labor Day weekend brings the Florida Scallop, Music & Arts Festival to Veterans Memorial Park at Beacon Hill on September 5 and 6, with music, arts, vendors, and plenty of Gulf County community spirit.
The Salt Air Farmers' Market is also scheduled for September 5 and September 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET in downtown Port St. Joe. Browse locally grown produce, handmade goods, plants, crafts, and more from area farmers and artisans.

Eventually, all that exploring is going to make somebody hungry.
September is a great excuse to slow down over a meal, grab something sweet, or wander through downtown Port St. Joe and see what catches your eye. From fresh seafood and casual waterfront favorites to coffee, bakeries, boutiques, galleries, and locally owned shops, there's plenty to discover without turning your afternoon into a checklist.
Explore Gulf County's local restaurants when you're ready to find a spot for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or something in between.
That's part of the fun. Pick a direction, take your time, and stop when something looks good.
