We asked Adventure Guide and owner of Daly’s Watersports Ann Marie Daly her favorite thing to do in the water (besides scuba dive, of course!). Check out her answer and we’ll see you on your board soon.
“For us it’s all about the Bay (St. Joseph Bay). Paddleboarding is the best sport to come along in forever! It is similar to the “hipness” of surfing. You’re gliding across the water on a board. The view point from a board allows you to see into the water and you can catch so many cool animals and fish. (Her favorite? The Sea turtle is the most awesome. They are huge and so graceful! The big ones we see diving just glide through the water. They make it look so easy.)
The board is big enough and broad enough that you can get down on your knees and be sturdy. You can take your dog or another person or a cooler! The Bay is good because it’s shallow and there are so many entry points. We have inflatable boards and they blow up fast. They are semi-rigid and they fit in your trunk. They are a lot easier if you fall – it’s softer. You can get to a lot of spots very easily.
We send our staff out on the Bay so they know the current conditions. Nature is unpredictable. She’s in charge. Her name is Mother Nature after all. So we tell our people to go out once a week and do something in the Bay in the area. Go play for the day. You’ll end up being a better guide.
