When the water gets hot, the fish go deeper so they are harder to catch, says Adventure Guide Captain Bobby of Break-A-Way Charters. It’s still fun to be in the water – swim, snorkel – just have a good time. But fishing in the fall is the best.
I think critters know so much we don’t. Years ago I noticed Bonefish in Key West starting acting different right before a front comes through. They like to eat before a storm. We may not feel it in the air but when you see the Bonefish eating, it’s fixing to change.
It’s been beautiful here lately. It was so clear a few weekends ago out around the tip of the Cape. We caught a 110-lb. tarpon and another 125-lb. one. We were only about a 100 yards out!! Tarpon know the weather and they like the warm water. They get here around mid-June and will be in Gulf County through September. They feel a front way before we do. They get their coat and hat and are back down to the Keyes before we ever notice the cold.
Any trip with Captain Bobby, has the likelihood of turning into a family tradition. Spend a day out on the water with him or his son, Wade, and you’ll see why.
