“Thanksgiving and Christmas are the two holidays where everyone really does try to get together,” says Silvia, Adventure Guide and Serenity Beach Rentals owner. “My family gets together for a weekend pre-Thanksgiving so that there isn’t a conflict with any of our husbands’ families. We get together early. Everyone cooks. We hangout. Watch football. Feels like Thanksgiving without the stress. We also see our guests taking advantage of “pre-Thanksgiving” or “pre-Christmas” It’s the GCFL version of the holidays!
Last year, there was a family that called to make a reservation for Thanksgiving. They said they have a tradition of choosing a different beach destination where they celebrate Thanksgiving together each year. Near the end of their stay they called me to re-book for this year. Said this was the first time the whole family wanted to come back to the same place for a second year in a row. They loved the laid-back vibe of GCFL – said they ate every meal at the house and the whole family spent nearly every minute outside.
All of our homes have very well stocked kitchens. You don’t have to bring a thing. The local grocery store is great. I tell people, “If the Pig doesn’t have it, you don’t need it.” Or, if you’re out on the Cape and need something quick, the Cape Trading Post has everything you may need for the little things.
We also tell people to visit the Farmer’s Market when they come in on Saturday. Lots of people will come in earlier then check in and swing by for fresh veggies or local honey.
But, if you don’t feel like cooking, that’s ok too. The Sunset Coastal Grill has the best view! And you’ll have a fantastic meal. Oh and my husband and I just ate at Shipwreck (the Shipwreck Raw Bar). I pulled Tony (owner, Tony Whitfield) aside and told him it was so great. We loved it! Get the smoked tuna dip – it is sooo good!
