Alyson Gerlach, owner of Pristine Properties, has lots of rental homes on every beach in Gulf County. And, Charlene Burke, captain of About Fun Charters covers as much ground by water as Alyson covers by land. Yet, when you ask them what their favorite hometown view is, their answer is the same – almost verbatim: “OK. I have two.”
“I love the shape of the tip of the Cape from across the water. So, I love to walk across the street and sit on the beach at St. Joe Beach. I can look out and see the entire Cape. I feel like I am privileged. As a homegrown southern girl, I have lived most of my adulthood along Northwest Florida beaches from Pensacola to Apalachicola. All are beautiful. My favorite is St. Joe Beach. I call it home,” says Captain Charlene.
“The view from St. Joe Beach is really neat because you can see the Cape on the horizon.” Alyson adds. “It’s the backdrop – a mysterious piece of land out there in the distance when you look out. Most people don’t know what it is. It makes us unique.”
And, don’t forget. Each Adventure Guide has a second favorite, too. One from land and one from water. Figures.
“And, the view standing on the north end of the Cape is awesome, too. Nothing but the sunset. Because of the position of the Cape running North and South, the sunsets really are as spectacular as they get. In both spots the view is more than you. Almost over takes you and where you are. It’s vast.” The Cape is Alyson’s second choice.
But, Charlene takes a different turn. “You know what else I really like? I can’t believe I’m going to say this but The Lighthouse. When they moved it, I was skeptical. But from the Bay, it’s so beautiful from any angle. Coming in by the Marina, from out on the water or coming over the bridge, it is so pretty. I love looking at it now. It was so secluded out on the Cape.”
