• Snowbirds

Escape the traffic and follow the Snowbirds who have discovered the quiet alternative. Our area is known as "Florida's Forgotten Coast" earning the nickname, in 1995, when state tourism officials left us off the annual map. The moniker seemed to stick and winter visitors are increasingly being drawn to our upbeat, down home way of life with more license plates reading Michigan, Ontario, Ohio, New York and Kentucky.

Our location, just 30 minutes from Panama City, places you close enough to all the big-city amenities you would ever need. But right here in our little paradise we offer world-class healthcare with the new state-of-the-art Sacred Heart Hospital, opened in 2010, 18-hole golf at St. Joseph's Bay Country Club, and more. A number of area events are Snowbird favorites from the annual St. Joseph's Bay Shrimp Boil in February to our Snowbird Welcome Luncheon and the Mexico Beach Gumbo Cookoff, always the third Saturday in February. Our organized harter bus excursions to the Biloxi casinos are always popular Snowbird events.

Since our area is most popular for summer beach vacationers, that means rental rates on beachfront townhomes are especially attractive in the offseason, with many under $1,000 per month.
