Water Activities: Bay Snorkeling
St. Joseph Bay is a designated State of Florida Aquatic Preserve
Snorkeling is really simple and
enjoyed by people of all ages. All you
really need is a mask and snorkel to
enjoy the calm, protected waters of St.
Joseph Bay, where you can stand in
depths of 3-5 feet in most places you'll
explore. Swim fins may help move you
along, or get you a little deeper.
Snorkeling is the preferred
method for gathering scallops, during
the annual July 1 - September 10
season. All snorkelers should display
a diver down flag to alert boaters
passing by. Please help us promote
our marine habitat by not collecting
other shell specimens from the bay
and instead by collecting shells from
the beach.
Scallop and snorkeling group trips
are available at Port St. Joe Marina,
and many small charter operators take
private trips. A variety of equipment is
available for rental and purchase from
the operators below:
