“We focus on homes for bigger families,” says Silvia, Adventure Guide and Serenity Beach Rentals owner. “We’ve tried to gear our inventory around multiple families traveling together. Many times two, three or four families will come down together and it may be the only time they’ve seen each other all year or in several years.”
Many people are looking for “things to do” with their young children. When they get here they realize that the activities in GCFL are nature-focused. Our families bond when they are playing outside.
I always recommend taking a trip out to the State Park (St. Joseph Peninsula State Park). You get the best of both the Bayside and the Gulf side in one trip. Just take it easy. Go on walks. Pick up shells. Kids and adults love it. Collect things and make cool things – give them as gifts. It’s so therapeutic. And making something out of it? I’m not crafty but there is a dish in my kitchen where I collect driftwood. Some day I’ll make something great out of it all! I did find a gorgeous giant heart cockle once that I still use as a little soap dish in our guest bath.
So many people ask me if they can build bonfires on the beach, too. You can and everyone enjoys a fire on the beach. It’s so awesome letting the kids hangout outside. Even sleep outside. Remember going on ghost crab hunts with your brothers while your parents sat on the porch and watched? You can’t do that kind of stuff just anywhere. It’s reminiscent of our childhood.
We love the Baywalk Trail – start down by the Marina and walk along the Bay – super relaxing – great photo opps. I take tons of pictures of my son and then grab some lunch and eat it there at the picnic tables.
Walking up and down Reid Avenue is also so nice. The antique stores are amazing. Our weather during the holidays is so conducive to playing outside. It’s easy to get out.
